It was a good thing Gabriel hadn't been actively trying to reason with Guild, then. Honestly, Davina Marr had been the larger problem as far as Gabriel was concerned. Guild had a purely political power and was biased, but he still had some measure of a moral code; Marr was evil, plain and simple.

"I'll be sure an' take you up on that," Gabe said cheerfully to Des. He leaned in to stage-whisper with a sidelong glance at Valkyrie, "Don't forget the collar and leash. I hear they work wonders."

Grinning unrepentantly at Valkyrie, the Archangel doffed his hat at the Edgley family. "See you later, folks."

He and Fletcher led the way outside. Once the door was closed and there was a distance there, he paused on the sidewalk and took a deep breath, looking up at the sky. "I really like them," he decided, turning to grin at Skul and Fletcher. "So would my Master. Valkyrie's very lucky. What did Thurid say, Skul?"
