Angels didn't suffer dizziness. That was the good part. The bad part was that the throb in his head was making it hard to concentrate or suffer much in the way of noise at all, and Gabriel wondered if this was what jackhammers felt like.

He should have warded himself before they came downstairs. Should have done something to take the edge off the vampires' residual presence. Now, he wasn't certain he'd be able to muster the wits to do so. Mostly, he was just walking a little dazedly in Skulduggery's wake as if the skeleton's soul was a guiding star, and the detective's voice was something of a surprise. Skul had slowed in order to speak to him, and without really pausing to think it over Gabe stepped close enough for their shoulders to brush, as if proximity to Skul's soul alone would protect him from the scream.

It did, a little.

"No," the Archangel answered honestly, his voice scratchy. "I should've done some wards before we came down. Vampires leave a ... a Hell of a scream." He smiled weakly, but it was a shadow and vanished as soon as it had come. If only he could bless this place, he could rid it of the residue.

But he couldn't. No time, no energy. He had pushed himself too hard, and the Archangel wished he hadn't been so imprudent with his powers before chastising himself. There hadn't been much choice in rescuing Ghastly and Tanith, and he didn't regret the little gifts using his powers had offered.
