Whether or not the breach had actually closed, Gabe couldn't tell; but with Finbar's rise out of the vision, their connection to it ended. The Archangel supported Finbar with a hand on his back, one that radiated assurance. Although Gabe would have liked to offer the psychic some of his strength, just as he had to Swami, he couldn't.
Then, he'd had three days to recover some of his equilibrium before Swami awoke. Now, Gabe hadn't had the chance to properly recover from the Faceless One's attack. And the pain he was holding at bay wasn't going to remain distant for long.
"Yes," he said, and managed a faint smile full of gratitude. "Thank you."
That was all he managed. The last residue of the vision wisped away and the strain came crashing in like waves against a cliff. It wasn't like when the Faceless Ones had knocked him into that building, in the other dimension. It was worse.
His eyes didn't roll back, but they went an odd and very unnatural sort of distant, as if his mind was rolling in all directions instead of being there. And he was; the agony in his head was like those first few seconds when he'd stepped into the Cacophony before he left home, overwhelming and splitting him apart. Only this, he couldn't escape, because this was coming from within.
One moment he was sitting up, supporting Finbar; the next, Gabe had sat down abruptly and was tilting to the side without even so much as a whimper.
