Gabriel's eyes were drawn to the light of the flames, and even though he didn't know what they were, or why they served the Faceless Ones, or whether they deserved any pity at all, the Archangel still paused for a moment to grieve the necessary loss of life.
Then Skulduggery's words drew his attention and Gabriel quickened his step to fall into pace beside him. "At least it'll be easier to ward," he said, scanning the interior of the tunnels. "I can draw sigils around the entrance. Several layers. They'd have to collapse half the tunnel to break them, or find a way around."
It was much better than the quick cloaking spell he'd left on the cliff-edge.
At Skul's next question Gabriel smiled at the detective with an odd sort of gentleness. "Is it eavesdropping when you've called upon Him, my friend?"
