Making Skul feel guilty certainly hadn't been Gabriel's intention. It was hard for Gabe to think about in those terms. Easier when he was merely describing a Fall, but to consider just how close he had come to being a demon ... that was all Gabe had meant by it.
That didn't mean the Archangel appreciated the apology less, particularly given the way in which it was broadcast. With the slightest of movements Gabe brushed Skul's back with one wing, near enough that the detective would be able to feel it. (The motion sent rivulets of pain down the limb, but it wasn't so bad as to be intolerable.)
"It's most likely Rafe will need the rest," Gabe said, apology in his tone. "Walking through that ocean strained my entire body, and I had solid anchors. Rafe and Merlin didn't; there's no telling how long they were wandering. My brother won't have open wounds, but I'm not expecting him to be up for much when he gets here."
Not even healing Gabe's own injuries, which was frustrating, but something Gabe was resigned to. He wasn't yet crippled--not yet. He could spare Rafe the energy.
Gabe opened his mouth to answer Tanith and wound up laughing at her final comment. "Only when Merlin's been casting illusions," he told her with that kind of deeply amused grin of someone looking back on a cherish memory. Michael had shown him an image of Lucifer after Merlin had stepped in-between the Fallen Archangel and Joby. "But no. Lucifer will likely go to the Necromancers for allies, but he dresses more like a businessman. Very prim, very proper, very boring and austere and cold. Lately he's been going by the alias Morgan."
