Well, not Merlin. Not originally. Actually, that had been God Himself--the first time, anyway. Merlin, half-human, raised human, with that sense of humour and free will, had merely been intensely amused by it time and time again. Whenever the pair met up and Merlin had the opportunity, the sorcerer teased Lucifer with it.

Lucifer usually fell for it, too.

"Who's going to suspect him when he looks 'normal'?" Gabe asked rhetorically with a shrug. "He invented 'normal', quote unquote. It's one of his tools to bury anyone who doesn't fit into that distinction. Naturally, he's going to make himself seem as if he fits into it. How better to keep himself hidden?"

The Archangel smiled beatifically. "It does make it great fun to mess up his clothes, though. He's far too obsessed with his appearance and far too prone to shouting when easily-startled birds are around."
