Gabe had been trying to be discreet--for Valkyrie's sake, yes, but more pointedly, for Skulduggery's. The last thing the detective needed was more reason to let his control lapse. So Gabriel winced at Valkyrie's blunt assertion, torn between feeling relieved she didn't seem to be wondering how he'd known (or at least unbothered by it) and chagrined she hadn't stopped to think.

"Remus Crux," Gabriel murmured, and the name helped solidify the person even though Gabriel had never met him before. He was another detective? Apparently the Sanctuary had issue with finding suitable people.

For a moment the Archangel remained silent, staring at the loveseat where China had lain. Something ... something. Something beyond the intent to kill. China had known where to find him. Gabe couldn't tell where, but maybe with time he'd figure it out. He tore his gaze from the sofa and turned back to Skulduggery. "Breathe," he said softly, his eyes on Skulduggery's. The way the detective's anger was taut with restrained action didn't bode well. "Why would China want to kill him?" He paused. "Why would her realisation of my true nature make her want to kill him so much that she would panic with the desire to?"
