He took no offence from Skul's amusement, if he even knew what it was for; sure, the Archangel could have known what had happened even in retrospect, but that would have meant reading the detective's mind and that would have been rude.
But that made Gabriel think of something else, and he paused, and looked at the detective, and bit his lip. Skul's given name would be the same all realities over. But his true name ... "Skul? Do you know your true name?"
If he didn't, there was a good possibility Gabriel would be able to find it. Not that he'd ever do it without permission, of course, but without knowing all the differences in every version of Skul, it would be nearly impossible to figure out the details to make sure they had the right universe.
Maybe if he had enough of them, it would make a difference. Yes, that would work. It would also take a lot of time to build to the right power, and they might not have that time.
