"We can say you're going out to a costume party," Gabriel suggested innocently and still with a broad grin as he moved closer to the door. His eyes widened a little; if not for the grin, he might have actually managed to look innocent. "And I never said it had to be something I did now ..."

Rather, he could wait until Rafe got there and he was either healed or they could double-team the skeleton. Which of them was Skulduggery going to blame? Rafe would be behind Gabe one-hundred per cent.

The look of pride in Skulduggery--and there was a look, skeleton or not--made Gabriel laugh again and shake his head. And Skul called him a show-off.

"I'll keep watch," he said, moving to a corner of the shop not too far from the doorway where he could see out the front window. He would have liked to have a rifle around the store, as evidenced by the way he looked around in wistful interest--these kinds of stores were some of his favourite. But, seeing as Skul had told him to rest, and because he couldn't move all that fast, he figured not moving was probably the best bet for him now.

"And you did, by the way," he added, glancing toward where the silent alarm was hidden.

"Better see the time's well-spent then," Dad said cheerfully, easily serving as Ghastly's personal leaning post. The pair of them looked like an odd four-legged beast with two heads, one side of which was somehow paralysed.

"Got you to prop up my other side," the older man told the younger with a grin, pushing open the door, keeping it open and manoeuvring Ghastly through it without seeming to have any troubles at all. "Now we're nicely relaxed, got anythin' fun you've been meanin' to do and never got around to?"
