"Try the other direction," Gabe said with a chuckle, "but you knew that. And you really wanna know?" He leaned in, laughter written all over his face, to stage-whisper: "There'd be no Bentleys. Or suits. Or hats. Nothin' but judicial wigs and old claptraps."
Which actually sounded a lot like something his Master would do, but that wasn't the point.
The Archangel drew back again with a laugh, smiling at Fletcher. "I'd say it does, bro. I'd say it does. Take your round, Skul."

There came a cheer from the small crowd and a deep, rolling laugh from Dad as He picked out a prize. A moment later He was ambling toward Ghastly and Guild, and somehow despite the now seven teddy-bears He didn't seem to be having any troubles carrying them all. (One of the vendors had offered him a carry-bag. He'd chosen a pink My Little Pony backpack into which four teddy-bears had been carefully arranged so they looked like they were climbing His back as if it were a jungle-gym.)
"Friend of yours, boyo?" He asked easily, His newest prize--a bear with luxurious chocolate-brown fur--tucked under His arm in a manner more befitting a child's hug than the indifferent grasp of an adult. His gaze fell on the Grand Mage's daughter and He winked. "Lookin' for a friend too, Missy? Here ya go."
He presented His newest 'friend' to the little girl with an oddly gentle smile.
