Skul's sudden turn around made Gabriel automatically follow his gaze, but the Archangel regretted it almost instantly. He closed his eyes and sank back into the pew, struggling to master the sudden upsurge of pain he had, until then, been managing to use the conversation to ignore. He wasn't sure if that had been the detective's intent, but it had worked, nonetheless, and he was grateful for it.
