Two days later, Gabe walked carefully through the halls of the Sanctuary, sandwiched in-between Skulduggery and Valkyrie. He was mildly amused by their protectiveness and the way they seemed to be bodyguarding him, and by the way Valkyrie sidelong eyed his hand on Skulduggery's arm. In spite of Kenspeckle making more oil, the Archangel's physical pains hadn't really eased. Mostly because he hadn't submitted to another massage yet.

Of course, the sidelongs were because of some deadpan comments Ghastly and Corrival had made in Valkyrie's hearing, ones which confirmed nothing but implied everything. Luckily, the teasing had remained just that in the girl's eyes. For now.

In the last two days, Corrival had called Erskine Ravel and asked him to chase up Anton Shudder. Gabriel was relieved; Anton shouldn't be alone right now. That, and it neatly avoided Skulduggery having to tell someone else in person. Solomon Wreath had remained at the Hibernian. The Necromancers were probably still on watch, but apparently they hadn't dared to attempt any forays inside--yet. (Solomon, his knee healed, was itching for an escape Kenspeckle was staunchly refusing.)

The other event of note was when Valkyrie had destroyed her Necromantic ring the day after they had stopped Scarab. Gabriel had quietly asked Paddy to attend them at the Hibernian, while Valkyrie was visiting Solomon. The former Necromancer may not have thought to ask, or even wanted to be near something full of Necromantic power, but Gabriel felt it was something he ought to see. And that Valkyrie would want to share with him. Kenspeckle, sceptical, derisive and fascinated by Paddy in equal amounts, had nevertheless been intrigued enough to stay. So had the others.

It hadn't taken long, not long at all, but the quiet peace after the fact had been a stark difference to the undercurrent tension from when Gabriel first laid eyes on Valkryie.

Guild's trial had been as quick and as short as Skulduggery had predicted. Now he had only to be moved to the Gaol. Which was why they were there.

"Do Sanctuary prisoners get a single phone call out?" the Archangel wondered out loud idly and a bit teasingly. "He must have softened up more than I thought, to call you."
