If this had been any other time, anywhere else, Gabriel might have asked exactly what part of it Skul objected to the most--the tripping, or the saving. But Gabriel already knew the answer to that, very well, and that was the reason they kept arguing this point under many different guises.

"The bridge broke," the Archangel pointed out, raising one shoulder in a shrug. "And it was either that or both of us. Besides, you were the one intent on throwing yourself to a dire-wolf so I could live. I don't think you can tell me off for believing him when you were going to do the same thing. There's a word for that. What is it again, Ghastly? I've forgotten."

He grinned at the tailor, and if it was a bit forced, it was hard to tell. There was another good thing about this argument. Gabriel had never realised how difficult stairs could be to navigate when you'd just strained your whole body.
