She wasn't going to mention it, but Kelly had had trouble sleeping last night. Sometimes that happened, given where she worked, but it wasn't usually because a friend's boyfriend turned out to be some kind of government agent tracking a traitor who tried to blow up an office-building and was hiding in the shelter. With a gun.
It would actually be more accurate to say that she hadn't gotten any sleep last night. Which was why it took just a little bit longer than usual for her to answer Janet's call. Kelly stifled the third yawn in two minutes as she walked up to the desk, rubbing her eyes.
She'd had a nap at lunch-time. It hadn't helped.
"Mornin'," she muttered, slumping on the counter. "Afternoon. Whatever. What can I do you for?"
Out of the corner of her eye she did actually see the woman at the desk. It just wasn't until she pried her eyes open again that she properly looked. And blinked. And blurted, "Are you wearing leather? What are you, a dominatrix or something?"
