Kelly leapt on the change of subject like a pouncing cat. "They'll be okay," she said quickly, more in the tone of something wanting to make it happen than because it was the truth. Then she took a breath and slowed down. "They will be," she said more certainly. "A few of them had really bad nights after they found out someone had been hiding a gun in the shelter, and one or two have been set back a little, but we'll make sure they'll be okay."

She snorted. "You've done enough, thanks. Just tell us that Marr is locked away in a very dark place for a very long time, like, I don't know, a million years. That should make some of them feel better, if they know she's not a threat anymore."
