"That's what He says too," Gabriel said with a laugh. "Even now, sometimes, if I ask about something, He doesn't really respond in a way that gives an answer. It's exasperating and funny at once."

But his attention was drawn a moment later from Skul to Fletcher, and the note in Fletcher's voice. Well, he hadn't meant that to happen. Gabriel smiled at him gently, reassuringly, all his attention on the young man. "It's not that kind of physical limitation, but you're right. When you Teleport, you move the world around you. But that's still a matter of the physical world. For my family it's different. We can inhabit another plane altogether."

The Archangel pursed his lips and tilted his head in thought. "Think of reality as a fabric. The world you see and interact with is the topmost layer. Manipulating that is hard enough, because it's so solidly formed. But underneath that is another layer, a foundation, and if you can manipulate that then the layer on top will have to follow." He spread his hands. "The second layer is all about resonances. Everything leaves one in it; it's just a matter of weaving them together until you can make the form you want in the physical layer. It's not actual creation, but it's a lot more than just an illusion too. Somewhere in-between, I guess you could say."

It was the same plane in which souls lived. The same one which allowed Gabe to hear and follow the songs of objects. All angels knew how to live and play on that plane; it was where the magic flowed, where they drew their energy, where they played their tunes.
