"But you live here now," Gabe pointed out. "Why can't you have two nations? This way you can bond more thoroughly with your new one! Besides," he added, "there's a lot of magic in Gaelic. It's one of the earlier human languages used for sigils and spells."

Which wasn't an exaggeration in the least. The Tuatha Dé Danann, the name by which the Ancients had been known in Ireland, had been known for their magic. They were one of the reasons why Ireland was known for its myths and legends, and it would do Fletcher good to learn some of the language.

"If you don't know any other languages," Gabe said firmly, "then it's about time you did. How about you start, and we'll go on from there."

The Archangel was entirely serious, and despite the young Teleporter's initial sidelong glances of disbelief and hope, Gabriel stuck with the idea throughout the rest of the ride. He was encouraging and gentle in his corrections, and the first time Fletcher actually turned to him to ask after a word, looking mildly surprised as if he hadn't expected himself to do so, Gabriel beamed.

Not that Gabriel begrudged Fletcher's expression of relief when they finally arrived. He was young and impatient, and his talent perpetuated the latter trait, so being driven for three hours must have been difficult.

Once again the Archangel was the last out of the car, moving slowly but relaxed and cheerful. He approached the tree with curiosity and a vague sense of wariness, and while there was indeed residue from times long past it had faded quite a bit. "It's just there." The Archangel pointed at the shadow of a knot in the trunk, whose the raised edges drew the eye and hid the things around it. "I think," he added, "it would be prudent for me to establish some wards of my own. Just in case."
