skeletonenigma: (yes?)

"Oh." Valkyrie paused, irrationally worried that she might have said too much. About what, or why it would even be a concern, she didn't know. Maybe it was just instinct. They'd been lying to people in positions of authority for a while now. "When I first started, Skulduggery gave me a spell that... basically lets my reflection come to life and take my place. So I can literally lead a double life. I get all the memories, and no one at home gets worried about me."

She definitely wanted to see her parents again, no doubt about it. But why should she spend more than a couple of days at home? What on earth would she learn at school that would be more important than what an Archangel could teach her? Why would she want to go back to a normal life now, for however short a time, when Skulduggery had just been rescued and everything was back to the way it should be?

Speaking of Skulduggery, he was walking back over now. Something about his gait was slower and choppier than his usual smooth stride, making Valkyrie frown. "What is it?"

The detective stopped. He had a hand over the mouthpiece of Ghastly's mobile phone - not that it would do much good when that hand was nothing but bones, unless he was also manipulating the air around it. "Gabe." He started to say something, then stopped, and shook his head, making a strange sound Valkyrie hadn't heard before. It stopped just short of actual laughter, and carried a sort of wry amusement.

Valkyrie had never seen him so lost for words. She didn't know whether to be terrified or not. "What?"

"Guild had an... impression, apparently."

Valkyrie was glad to see she wasn't the only one looking lost. "An impression we need to worry about?" Ghastly prompted Skulduggery.

"No." This was said quickly and firmly. "But an interesting one. And I find it hard to believe," he added, turning his skull towards Gabriel, "that you wouldn't have picked up on it." There was a question in his voice, but whatever that question was, it sailed right over Valkyrie's head. What kind of an impression would Guild have gotten of a skeleton and a barefoot cowboy?

"Oh," Skulduggery added, "and who is Darren Criss, by the way?"
