Wait, he wasn't actually going to...

... was he?

Really?

One of the biggest reasons people used for being strict and adherent to an arbitrary set of rules was going to try changing into a dinosaur, just because Fletcher suggested it?

Fletcher was so used to having his own ideas shot down by other people at every turn that the teenager was genuinely stunned as he watched Gabriel give himself some room. Would it be like watching a vampire change, he wondered? Somehow, Fletcher doubted it. Gabriel had even said this form wasn't physical, so why would it be a physical change? But Fletcher had no clue what kind of change to expect, or how fast it would be, or even what would be standing there after -

And then he didn't have to wonder anymore, because in the blink of an eye, Gabriel was long-necked, four-legged, and taller than the surrounding trees.

Fletcher practically had to restrain himself from leaping up and down with excitement - and even then, he couldn't help an excited scream, like he was on a roller coaster. Archangels, God, Lucifer, religion in general... that had all made him freeze in his tracks and grow sick with self-consciousness. Seeing a live dinosaur right in from of him had very much the opposite effect, especially since he knew it wasn't dangerous - it was still Gabriel, still his friend. Suddenly Fletcher wanted to run and scream and jump without a care in the world about who saw him doing it.

Gabe's words entered his head without passing through his ears, which Fletcher might have been more thrown off by if he'd taken the time to think about it. Instead, he did exactly what Gabriel said without a second thought, climbing carefully up onto the dinosaur's large head and laughing all the while. "This is incredible!"

How many books and movies had he seen and read as a kid? And now Fletcher was living it. 'Incredible' wasn't a strong enough word.
