How many people could say they'd ridden dinosaurs?
Absolutely no one other than Fletcher.
The noise Gabriel made echoed across the grasslands, almost dislodging Fletcher from his precarious perch in surprise. He clung on, still laughing, while the wind rushed in his ears and the horizon was revealed above the tops of the trees. He waited until that wind had stopped and everything grew absolutely still before he risked letting go again.
He didn't have words to answer the Archangel, but Fletcher was sure his voice would have been thin and reedy if he'd tried to say anything just then. Any noise now would ruin the moment. All Fletcher could do was nod in agreement, which was fine, because that was all he wanted to do. He could have stayed up there forever.
"Fletcher?" he heard Valkyrie's voice call, very faintly from down on the ground. "Gabriel! Are you guys oka - "
Her voice abruptly cut off. Fletcher grinned and looked down at where her voice had come from, hidden by one of the trees near the original entrance into the safehouse. "We're absolutely fine!" he called back down, relishing the look he imagined to be on her face. "I'll be down in a minute!"
Gabe's trumpet had probably brought them all outside. Fletcher found he didn't really care right now.
